The driver of a small hybrid car escaped injury after crashing into a utility pole on Main Street at around noon Monday.

The crash, reported at 80 Main St. at 11:57 a.m., involved a 2006 Toyota Prius driven by Carey Newman, 38, of Bath.

Chief Deputy Brett Strout with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department said Newman allegedly reached down to pick something up off the floor, left the roadway and struck and broke a utility pole.

Newman was not injured and wasn’t issued charges, Strout said.

Passenger injured in Bowdoin crash

A Sabattus man was issued charges after allegedly pulling out in front of a vehicle on Litchfield Road, sending the passenger to the hospital with a complaint of pain.

The crash was reported at about 8 a.m. Thursday on Litchfield Road. Chief Deputy Brett Strout of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department said Nathaniel Gerrish, 27, of Litchfield, was traveling south on Litchfield Road and as he approached the intersection of the Wood School House Road, a 2002 Jeep Wrangler pulled out in front of him. The Jeep was driven by Mark Mcbride, 50, of Sabattus.

Strout said Mcbride’s wife was a passenger in the Jeep. She complained of pain and was transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and is no longer listed as a patient.

Mcbride was issued summonses charging him with operating after suspension and failure to yield following the crash.
