PORTLAND — The Atlantic Division leading Maine Red Claws (24-11) hope to extend their three-game win streak this evening when they entertain the Southwest Division leading Austin Spurs at 7 p.m. at the Portland EXPO.

Austin, the D League affiliate of the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs comes to tonight’s contest with a four-game win streak and a league best 29-10 record. The Spurs lineup features Kyle Anderson, NBA Development League Player of the Month for February.  Anderson (6-9, 230, UCLA) has played in 16 games with Austin, averaging 22.1 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists. He is on assignment from San Antonio,  where the 21-year-old rookie appeared in 27 games. He last played for San Antonio on January 16.

Rookie point guard Tim Frazier returned to the Red Claws on Saturday after being waived by the Philadelphia 76ers. During his two, 10-day contract NBA stint, Frazier played a significant 28.5 minutes per game and averaged 5.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and an impressive 7.2 assists in six games with the Sixers. His 43 assists against only 18 turnovers ratio of 2.39 was among the league’s best. Although Frazier has been one of the more accurate shooters for the Red Claws, his shooting percentage in the NBA may have been a concern.

In his Red Claws return on Saturday, Frazier scored 27 points with 9 rebounds and 16 assists against only two turnovers.  Overall, Frazier leads Maine in scoring (16.1 points per game), assists (9.2 per game) and steals (1.9 per game). The Penn State product also is the team leader in foul shots (almost twice as many as the next highest player) hitting 78.5 percent of his free throws, along with a Rajon Rondo-like 7.1 rebounds per game.  Frazier was named D-league Performer of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 7.

Second year Red Claw Chris Babb is second on the team to Frazier in scoring (15.8 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), minutes played (35.1), and free throw percentage (77.8-percent). Babb, who played for two years at Penn State (a teammate of Tim Frazier in 2009”“10) before transferring to Iowa State, played in 14 games for the Celtics last season, following his promotion from Maine.

Forward Omari Johnson is third in scoring and rebounding at 14.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The Indiana product is in his first D-League season.

Following tonight’s game the Red Claws ”“ off to their best start in franchise history ”“ embark on a quick three-game road trip before returning home next Friday.

The Red Claws currently lead second place Canton by 3 1/2 games. Each of the four division winners in the 18-team league, and four wildcards, with the next best records regardless of division, will qualify for the playoffs.
