WELLS — Two horses that wandered away from a pasture were safely returned home Monday.

Sgt. Chad Arrowsmith said police received a call Sunday from Canticle Farm on Clark Road that two of their horses were missing. The snow was so high that the horses walked over the fence, said Arrowsmith.

Once on the road, the horses were spooked by the traffic, and retreated into the woods. Snow blown by high winds covered the horses’ tracks, he said.

A search party dispersed in the woods to find the horses, with assistance from infrared cameras, said Arrowsmith. The two horses were found in a clearing by the power line near Chick Crossing Road, about a mile away from the farm, he said.

They were returned safely home and determined by a veterinarian to be in good health.
