BATH — On Tuesday, February 3 at 6:30pm Patten Free Library will screen the first of four Cary Grant films, The Awful Truth. Irene Dunne and Ralph Bellamy co-star with Grant in this screwball romantic comedy released in 1937. The film was directed by Leo McCarey (who won the Academy Award for Best Director) In 1996, The Awful Truth was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, having been deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” The plot concerns the machinations of a soon-to-be-divorced couple, played by Dunne and Grant, who go to great lengths to try to ruin each other’s romantic escapades. Additional titles to be shown on subsequent Tuesdays include “Notorious,” “His Girl Friday,” and “My Favorite Wife.” All films are free and open to the public, and the library is handicapped accessible. Refreshments are provided.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
