Saturday Concert

On Saturday, Jan. 24, Music with a Mission at North Windham Union Church will present an evening of Celtic and folk music performed by Press Gang, a Portland-based group. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. Adults, $12; children, students and seniors, $10. Call 892-7149 for more information. Proceeds help fight hunger in Maine.

History of Skiing in Maine

At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, Windham Historical Society will present “A Fireside Chat” by Scott Andrews of Ski Museum of Maine, all about the history of skiing in Maine. The program will be held at Windham Public Library’s public meeting room. There is no charge, but a $5 donation is suggested to help the historical society continue its expansion project, known as the Village Green. For more information, call 892-1306. Refreshments will be available. Those attending are welcome to bring old ski equipment – and memories!

Cancer Support Group Meets

The monthly meeting of Windham Cancer Support Group will be held on Monday, Jan. 26, at 6:30 at the library. The group provides support and education for all cancer victims, survivors and caregivers of anyone dealing with the disease. This month’s meeting will be an informal one. Questions? Thrift Shop Sale

North Windham Union Church UCC’s thrift shop at 723 Roosevelt Trail is having a “Hanger Sale” with items on a hanger costing only $1 for the month of January. There are also housewares, books, baby clothes, etc. for sale. Hours are 1-3 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

10th Anniversary Tea

It hardly seems possible that it’s been 10 years since we first wrote about Windham library’s wonderful tea in the afternoon – an event that has grown so much over time. All ages are welcome to take a tea-break, enjoying beautiful and colorful China cups and saucers, delicious treats prepared just for these events and the relaxed atmosphere of Tea for you @ the library. Come and enjoy on Tuesday, Jan. 27, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Snowshoe Hike

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, a moonlight snowshoe hike will be held at 6 p.m. at Lippman Park in North Windham. Families of all ages can meet at the parking lot at 5:45 p.m. Snowshoes will be available and cocoa and snacks provided. Bring your flashlight. Must register by calling the Windham Parks and Recreation Department at 892-1905 – space is limited.

Senior Citizens Valentine Lunch

Unity Gardens in Windham will have their Valentine Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 12, at noon. Lunch includes lasagna, salad, garlic bread and dessert. Reservations are required by Feb. 9. Audition Call

Windham Center Stage Theater has just begun rehearsals for its star-quality children’s production of “Little Mermaid Jr.” Don’t forget to set aside time to see Ariel, Ursula and Sebastian with their whole chorus of other colorful sea creatures! Opening night is Friday, March 13. Look to reserve your tickets by mid-February.

Come audition for WCST spring adult production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Directed by Broadway veteran and Windham native, Jonathan Miele. Auditions will be at Windham High School Feb. 5 and 6. Winter Jackets and Coats Needed

Windham Clothes Closet, a welcome free resource, is in need of warm winter jackets for children. Bring your gently used children’s winter jackets/coats, sizes infant through 20 and men’s sizes small and medium to the Clothes Closet Monday and Tuesday mornings (downstairs at the food pantry) or at other times, through Thursdays, to the Food Pantry. Location is right across the street from Friends Church.

Please Return Borrowed Equipment

The Windham Loan Closet volunteers kindly ask that borrowed items (particularly shower benches, potty chairs and wheelchairs) be returned when folks are done with them.

Church Supper

On Saturday, Jan. 31, Tuttle Road Methodist Church in Cumberland is holding its fifth Saturday baked bean supper featuring three kinds of beans, macaroni and cheese, chop suey, cole slaw, homemade pies and beverages. $8 for adults, $5 for children. Poker Nights

Like to play poker? At Dena’s Restaurant, Windham Veterans Association hosts Texas Hold-em Poker on the first and third Wednesdays each month, starting at 7 p.m. Sign up is at 6:30 p.m. and anyone signed up by 6:45 gets a free $1,000 chip. Proceeds benefit the Veterans Center building and operations. Dena’s Restaurant is next to Windham Post Office – great food and drinks available. Next dates are Feb. 4 and 18.

Bean Supper

A baked bean supper will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, at the White Rock Community Club, Wilson Road, Gorham, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The menu includes two kinds of baked beans, hot dogs, coleslaw, potato salad, macaroni and cheese, homemade biscuits and pies, punch and coffee. $8 for adults, $4 for children 6-12; free for children 5 and under.
