BIDDEFORD — Biddeford goalie Brandon Daigle stopped all 47 shots he faced as the host Tigers downed Falmouth 1-0 in a Western Class A boys hockey clash at Biddeford Ice Arena on Monday.
Ricky Ruck scored the only goal for Biddeford (5-3-2), as he received a pass from Curtis Petit for the goal 43 seconds into the second period.
The Yachtsmen (9-3) had one last shot with 2:30 left, as they went on the only power play of the game, but Daigle finished off his shutout in style by denying Falmouth throughout the man advantage.
Girls Basketball
GORHAM 53, THORNTON 48
SACO — Visiting Gorham scored eight points in the final 8.2 seconds to shock Thornton Academy 53-48 in an SMAA girls basketball game at Linnell Gymnasium on Monday.
Emily Esposito made all four of her free throws in the sequence and finished with a game-high 25 points. Kaylea Lundin and Ashley Woodbury each made a pair of free throws in the game-ending run for Gorham (11-2).
Ashley Howe scored a team-high 13 points for the Trojans (11-2), who led 39-32 heading into the fourth quarter. Katie McCrum added 10 points.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH 66, KENTS HILL 26
KENTS HILL — Peyton Feitz scored 11 points to help lead visiting Old Orchard Beach to a 66-26 victory over Kents Hill in a Western Class C girls basketball game on Monday.
Meaghan LaPlante added eight points for the Seagulls (8-2).
Allie Helfrich scored a game-high 20 points for the Huskies (2-4).
Boys Basketball
CHEVERUS 61, BIDDEFORD 47
PORTLAND — Host Cheverus got off to a hot start, scoring the first 12 points of the game and never looking back as the Stags beat Biddeford 61-47 in an SMAA boys basketball game on Monday.
Cheverus (7-6) kept its 12-point cushion after one quarter, as it led 18-6, but the Tigers (1-12) closed the gap to 22-20 at halftime.
The Stags stretched their lead to six by the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth.
Austin Dutremble scored a career-high 16 points for the Tigers, including hitting three 3-pointers. Patrick Pearl added 14 on the back of 8-10 shooting at the free throw line. Jason Vadnais also reached double figures, as he poured in 11 points.
Jack Casale scored a game-high 20 points for Cheverus.
GREELY 50, OLD ORCHARD BEACH 47
OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Matt McDevitt scored a team-high 14 points to lead visiting Greely over Old Orchard Beach, 50-47, in a WMC boys basketball game on Monday.
Jordan Bayshaw scored 11 points and Gabe Axelson added 10 for the Rangers (7-5).
Erik Hogan scored a game-high 15 points for the Seagulls (5-6), while Zach Hirst pitched in with 14.
