BRUNSWICK — The state has scheduled a permit hearing, on March 25, for a controversial passenger train shed planned for an area between Church Road and Stanwood Street in Brunswick.
Maine Department of Environmental Protection will decide whether to grant a storm water permit for the facility to be used by Amtrak’s Downeaster. The permit is needed before construction of the $12 million, 60,000-squarefoot train shed can begin.
DEP decided to conduct public hearing on the permit after a request by the Brunswick West Neighborhood Coalition, which opposes the facility. Both Brunswick West and train shed proponents TrainRiders Northeast may offer testimony and participate in cross-examinations during the hearing.
