BATH — A new business will be joining the retail mix on Front Street in Bath. In the space formerly occupied by the Intown Shop, The Mustard Seed Bookstore will throw open its doors on Feb. 16, according to a news release.
Offering a wide variety of books, including fiction, classics, children and young adult, history, sports, travel, poetry, sustainable living, faith-building books and Bibles, and a large section of books on Maine and New England, the store has something for everyone. In addition, the new store will sell gifts, music, stationery, wrapping paper and greeting cards.
The store will also serve an array of hot teas and baked goods, provided by The Starlight Café in Bath.
Owners Mike and Julie Shea of Georgetown have been encouraged by the excited response of people who have heard of the store’s imminent opening.
“We are so thankful that the community is behind us in keeping an independent bookstore in Bath,” said Julie Shea, referring to the late January retirement of Connie Butson, owner of The Bath Bookshop. Julie worked with Butson over the past year, reading for Saturday Story times and working at the register.
For years, Julie Shea dreamed of owning her own bookstore. Having been an educator for more than two decades, she had a great appreciation for books and the impact they could have on lives. Two years ago, she and Mike read “The Circle Maker” by Mark Batterson and followed the directive to write down and “circle” their dream on paper and in prayer. They hoped to be able to open a bookstore in the Mid-coast area within four years, but in less than two years the realization of The Mustard Seed Bookstore was established.
