Forum to focus on school planning

Residents are invited to participate in the Yarmouth School Department’s Community Forum on Strategic Planning, Monday, Jan. 12, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Yarmouth High School cafeteria. At this meeting school officials will unveil the process by which a five-year plan will be developed. Attendees will participate in small-group discussions, sharing their thoughts on the schools’ strengths, challenges and opportunities. This is the first of two public forums, with the second coming later in the spring.

Library notes

Merrill Memorial Library has resumed regular hours at its newly renovated building at 215 Main St. It is open from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Monday, and 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Readers Circle selection for January is “The Ice Princess,” by Camilla Lackberg. The book discussion group will meet Thursday, Jan. 29, at 7 p.m., at the library.

Yarmouth Volunteer Fire Rescue Association President Jess Hyde and Vice President Terry Buck recently presented Merrill Memorial Library Director Heidi Grimm with a new automatic external defibrillator. This defibrillator was funded and donated entirely by the members of the association and will be available in the renovated third-floor area. There is another AED near the first-floor main desk.

Tree pruning to continue

Starting this month, Central Maine Power will continue its street tree-pruning program. The following streets in Yarmouth are on their list for 2015 (includes all side streets):

Group 1: North Road, East Main Street, Burnell Drive, Melissa Drive, Ellen Circle, Farnell Circle, Gail Lane, Rogers Road, South Old County Road, Granite Street extension, Willow Street, Bayview Street to Brown’s Point, Woodland Drive, Sisquisic Trail, Harbor View Drive, Yankee Drive.

Group 2: West Elm Street, Center Street, South Street, School Street, Bridge Street, Mayberry Lane

Group 3: Portland Street, High Street, Spring Street.

Group 4: Gilman Road, Morton Road, Vail Point, Homewood area, Seaborne Drive, Oakley Road, Drinkwater Road, Sunset Point Road, Prince’s Point.

Group 5: Pleasant Street, Evergreen Drive, Smith Street, Lafayette Street, Route 88, Fairwind Estates, Rand Road, Wood Circle Drive, Route 1,

Parking ban

The all-night, on-street parking ban is in effect through April 15. This is an effort to keep the streets clear for snow removal. According to the police department, all-night parking is defined as parking for more than one hour between midnight and 6 a.m. This applies to all public streets within the town.
