AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — A panel that has been tasked with recommending a winner in a disputed Maine Senate race is set to begin its work.
The special election committee, led by Republican Sen. Roger Katz, will meet today.
The panel was formed to investigate the race for Senate District 25, where Democrats have raised concerns about possible voter fraud. Unofficial results had shown Democrat Cathy Breen as the winner, but a recount flipped the results in Republican Cathy Manchester’s favor.
Twenty one ballots cast for Manchester in Long Island that were found in the recount don’t match the number of counted voters on Election Day.
Katz said that among those expected to attend today’s hearing include poll workers, those present at the recount and the Maine State Police trooper who transported the ballots.
