NEW YORK (AP) — Adrian Peterson did not testify at his appeal hearing Tuesday and NFL executive Troy Vincent is scheduled to testify Thursday, according to two people familiar with the case.

Peterson gave a statement, said one person. Both people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither side is discussing the case publicly.

Peterson left without comment after spending more than three hours at the hearing. His attorney, Jeffrey Kessler, said only that the hearing will continue Thursday.

The proceedings were held before longtime hearing officer Harold Henderson.

Peterson is seeking reinstatement after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for the rest of the season for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Peterson will not be considered for reinstatement before April 15.

The 2012 NFL MVP hasn’t played for the Minnesota Vikings since Week 1 after he was charged with child abuse in Texas. He was placed on paid leave while the legal process played out, and he pleaded no contest Nov. 4 to misdemeanor reckless assault for injuring his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch.

The NFL Players Association called the punishment “unprecedented, arbitrary, and unlawful.” The union is arguing Peterson should get credit for time served on the exempt list.

The NFLPA submitted a tape of a conversation between Peterson and Vincent in which the NFL’s executive vice president of football operations tells Peterson he would be credited with time served and receive a two-game suspension if he attended a disciplinary hearing Nov. 14 with Goodell. Peterson skipped that meeting.

The union asked Henderson to compel Vincent to testify and he obliged. Vincent testified in Washington on Tuesday before a Senate Commerce Committee hearing about domestic violence in professional sports.

Falcons

ATLANTA (AP) — The cost of the new Atlanta Falcons stadium has climbed to $1.4 billion.

The initial cost of the retractable-roof facility, which will replace the Georgia Dome in 2017, was estimated at $1 billion. That was later raised to $1.2 billion.

Now, it’s gone up again by $200 million. The final budget was approved Tuesday by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority. NFL ownership is expected to follow suit next week.

The new budget includes $1.078 billion in construction costs, with the remainder going to design, development and other non-construction costs.

“More detailed design plans allowed us to more accurately budget the cost of the stadium,” said Greg Beadles, the team’s chief administrative and financial officer. “At the same time, construction costs across the board continue to increase as the economy improves and demand grows. “

Beadles said the team looked into all possible costcutting measures while maintaining its “vision of providing a great experience to the fans and guests who enter the building.”

The additional cost does not affect the $200 million in public funding, which will come from the city’s hotelmotel tax.

However, with the remainder coming from private sources, the Falcons will surely need to raise more through sponsorships and personal seat licenses, which would significantly raise the burden on seasonticket holders.

Construction on the new stadium began early this year and is scheduled to be completed in March 2017, in time to also serve as the home of Atlanta’s new MLS soccer team. After it is completed, the adjacent Georgia Dome will be imploded.

The Falcons stadium will be one of the most expensive sports venues ever built, rivaling the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium and the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium, which opened this season.

Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka and offensive linemen Geoff Schwartz and Adam Snyder are among five New York Giants going on injured reserve Tuesday, increasing the team’s total to 20.

Defensive end Robert Ayers and linebacker Terrell Manning also went on the list.

Kiwanuka’s streak of 63 straight games was snapped Sunday when he missed the loss at Jacksonville with a knee injury. Ayers started in his place, then tore a pectoral muscle. Ayers was tied for the team lead with five sacks.

Schwartz, a major offseason acquisition, missed the first 10 games with a dislocated toe. Then he hurt his ankle Sunday.

New York signed running back Chris Ogbonnaya and added from the practice squad guard Eric Herman, defensive tackle Dominique Hamilton and linebacker James Davidson.

The Giants cannot replace Manning on the roster for three weeks under NFL rules because he was just signed off Cincinnati’s practice squad.

Browns

CLEVELAND (AP) — Browns wide receiver Miles Austin will spend a third night in the hospital with a kidney injury sustained Sunday in Buffalo.

Austin was taken to Erie County Medical Center by ambulance following the 26-10 loss. The Browns say Austin, who has made several clutch catches for the club this season, is being kept for precautionary reasons. The team has not disclosed any other details of his injury.

Austin made seven catches for 86 yards against the Bills. His playing status remains unknown for this week.

Coach Mike Pettine is expected to provide an update on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old Austin is in his first season with the Browns, who signed him as a free agent in May. He spent the previous eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.

Chiefs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have signed Richard Gordon and waived Phillip Supernaw in a swap of third-string tight ends heading into Sunday’s game at Arizona.

Gordon played in two games for the Chiefs last season and had appeared in three games for Tennessee this season. The former Miami standout, who has also played for Oakland and Pittsburgh, has only caught four passes for 14 yards while being used primarily as a blocker.

Supernaw began his season in Baltimore and had spent the past three games with the Chiefs, catching his only pass two weeks ago against Oakland.
