Caron honored for WW II duty

Albert E Caron, 93, of Westbrook was presented his lost medals in a ceremony attended by Sen. Susan Collins on Nov. 15 at the Army Reserve Center in Auburn.

Caron, a master sergeant, served during World War II in the Philippines. A former Japanese prisoner of war, he escaped on July 4, 1944, after one year in captivity, his granddaughter, Michelle Morrell said in an email.

Five generations of the Caron family were represented at the ceremony including Caron’s brother Larry Caron and family; a daughter, Mary Jeanne Caron and family; grandsons granddaughter, great-grandsons and great-grandson Ethan Joseph Plummer.

Westbrook dancers in ‘Nutcracker’

Maine State Ballet’s “The Nutcracker,” with four Westbrook dancers, will bring the beauty and joy of the season to Portland’s Merrill Auditorium Saturday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 7.

The dancers from Westbrook are Ruby Anderson, Aurora Halfacre, Elara Halfacre and Marie-Claire Owens. The family holiday tradition will feature live music from the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, costumes and stage scenery by Gail Csoboth, and, more than 300 of the most talented dancers in Maine.

Performances of Maine State Ballet’s “The Nutcracker” will be held Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m.; Friday Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.; Saturday Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Sunday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.

Legion turkey shoot

Westbrook Memorial Post 197 of the American Legion, 300 Conant St., is sponsoring a turkey shoot 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21.

The event includes an acoustic jam, light refreshments, drink specials and door prozes.

WHS concert

Philip Rich, Westbrook music director, has announced a holiday concert next month.

The Westbrook High School band and chorus will perform at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15, in the Westbrook Performing Arts Center at the middle school, 471 Stroudwater St.

Her daughter, Sherri, organized the party in the gathering room.
