With final vote totals reported Wednesday, Rep. Amy Volk, a Republican state representative from Scarborough, unseat incumbent Jim Boyle for the Senate District 30 seat.
Boyle, a Democrat from Gorham, was seeking re-election to a second term.
Volks received 53 percent of the vote to 47 percent for Boyle.
District 30 had become one of the key battlegrounds between Republicans and Democrats, with out-of-state groups spending more than $100,000 on ads, including direct mail and television spots.
The district includes Gorham, and parts of Scarborough and Buxton.
