SANFORD — The near-winner of a partial council term said because just two votes separate her and the winner, she’ll be asking City Clerk Sue Cote to take another look at the ballots.
Victor DiGregorio was the top vote-getter in a four-way race to fill a partial term that expires Dec. 31, 2016. DiGregorio earned 1,773 votes in unofficial totals, while incumbent Dianne Connolly earned 1,771 votes.
Candidate Lucas Lanigan earned 1,709 votes, while Margaret Trowbridge earned 1,135 votes.
“I plan to ask for a recount,” said Connolly, noting the two-vote difference after votes were tallied Tuesday night.
Two incumbents, Joseph Hanslip and Maura Herlihy, were returned to office for three-year terms. Hanslip earned 3,655 votes, Herlihy earned 3,622 and candidate Steve Bruno earned 3,089.
Connolly also pointed out the large number of ballots left blank for the municipal races ”“ 1,077 in the contest for the partial term and 4,564 in the three-way race for two council seats.
For Sanford School Committee, Kendra Williams and Thomas Miscio ran unopposed in their bids for re-election.
