On Tuesday, Cape Elizabeth voters approved a $4 million bond to renovate and expand the Thomas Memorial Library, with 3,587 for the project and 1,798 against.

Residents also voted to support an additional contingency of $200,000 for unanticipated expenses during the library construction, and another $150,000 for providing temporary library facilities during construction.

The two available Town Council sits will be filled by newcomer Patricia Grennon, who received 3,343 votes in Tuesday’s election, and incumbent Kathy Ray who earned 3,640 votes. Both Grennon and Ray were elected to three-year terms.

In a race for two School Board seats, Barbara Powers took the lead with 3,417 votes and will now serve a three-year term. She will be joined by incumbent Joanna Morrissey who earned 2,231 votes, and was re-elected to a three-year term. Incumbent Elizabeth Scifres was unseated after falling behind with 1,503 votes.

Wayne H. Ross will serve a five-year term as the representative of the Portland Water District Board of Trustees.

In addition, Democrat Kim Monaghan-Derrig was re-elected to a term as State House Representative in District 30, defeating Republican challenger Pauline Wilcox 3,169 to 1,859.

State Sen. Rebecca J. Millett won 2,823 votes for Senate District 29. Challengers Republican William R. DeSena garnered 2,105 votes and Independent Mark D. Deihl received 473 votes.

Cape Elizabeth residents also re-elected incumbent Congresswoman Chellie Pingree to represent District 1 with 3,516 votes. Independent Richard P. Murphy earned 326 votes and Republican Isaac J. Misiuk earned 1,528 votes.

In Cape Elizabeth, Congressman Mike Michaud took the lead with 2,986 votes for governor while Incumbent Paul LePage received 1,793 votes. Independent Eliot Cutler earned 780 votes.

And in the race for U.S. Senate, Incumbent Susan Collins won the most votes, 3,307, against Democratric challenger, Shenna Bellows, who received 2,184 votes in Cape Elizabeth.

Voters also supported Question 1 on the state referendum ballot, regarding a ban on bear baiting, with 3,645 votes for the ban and 1,804 against.

According to Town Clerk Debra Lane, more than 5,500 ballots were cast in Cape Elizabeth Tuesday.
