SACO — University College at Saco, an outreach center of the University of Maine System, will hold an open house on Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 4-6 p.m. to celebrate the relocation of the center to the Saco Valley Shopping Center. The regional office of Maine Centers for Women, Work and Community, and York County Senior College have moved with the center and will be part of the celebration. Community members are invited to attend.
The event will be held at 4 Scamman St., Suite 18, in the Saco Valley Shopping Center and will include refreshments and center tours. A brief presentation will begin at 4:30 p.m. Speakers will include UMA President Cummings, Saco Mayor Donald Pilon, Executive Director of University College Bonnie Sparks, Student Government President Cheryl Killian, students Garrett and Dorothy Guindon, and representatives from Women, Work and Community and others.
“We look forward to celebrating our new center with students, faculty, staff and the larger Saco/Biddeford community,” said Erica Watson, director of University College at Saco. “Our new center is more accessible to everyone and offers students the latest technology, classrooms and quiet study areas. Already students have told us how much they enjoy the collegial atmosphere fostered by the new space.”
University College at Saco is one of eight University of Maine System centers located across Maine. The center offers courses from the seven UMS campuses via interactive television, videoconference and online. Courses also are taught onsite by UMA instructors. Students can choose from more than 100 degree and certificate programs that can be earned online and at the center.
