In three weeks, Tuesday, Nov. 4, is the general election. The general election is held nationally on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November. In 2014, Maine voters will elect the governor, one of Maine’s two United States senators, Maine’s representatives to Congress, members of the Maine Legislature (state senators and state representatives) and certain county officers.
Maine has one of the most accessible voting processes in the country, making it so very simple. And Maine has one of the highest percentage of resident voting among all 50 states.
To vote in Maine you must be: 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of the city or town in which you want to vote. Your town or municipal clerk is the best resource in determining your voting district, whether you are a registered voter and how to register to vote. If you are not registered to vote, they’ll be able to advise you on what you need to register (ID, proof of residency, etc.) You can also register on Election Day at your polling location.
The U.S. Constitution gives all citizens the right to vote, so don’t give up one of our most precious rights.
Who and what you vote for is up to you. For a list of general election candidates, use this website: www.maine.gov/sos/cec/elec/upcoming. html.
