Westbrook police have arrested a suspect in a shooting incident that occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on Sunday.

According to Capt. Michael Nugent, officers responded to Carlson Street after a cab driver reported an altercation with a rider. According to the driver, he was taking a man and a woman to a Westbrook residence when the male rider threatened him and made disparaging comments about his ethnicity before exiting the cab and smashing its windshield.

The driver called 911 and followed the couple on foot to a home on Carlson Street. The man then allegedly came back outside and fired a gun at the driver.

Responding officers identified the suspect as 30-year-old Keith W. O’Brien of Westbrook. After interviewing the involved parties and executing a search warrant at the Carlson Street home, O’Brien was arrested for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, aggravated reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and falsifying physical evidence. Ammunition and other evidence were recovered during the investigation.

O’Brien was arrested and taken to Cumberland County Jail.
