SANFORD — Eunice Beaudoin of Sanford turned 100 years old on Sunday, Oct. 5, and a birthday party in her honor was hosted by her daughter, Shirley Richer-Woodman and son-in-law, Harold E. Woodman, with about 75 people in attendance.
Beaudoin was born in Rollingsford, New Hampshire in 1914. She married and had four children: Alan, Donald and Roger Hartford, and her daughter, Shirley. Beaudoin has 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She lives with her daughter in Sanford.
She was widowed at 28 years old and worked in shoe shops all her life until retiring.
In her younger days, Beaudoin was known for making and decorating fancy cakes, such as those for weddings, and loved all kinds of sports, including softball, horseshoes and dancing. She played the piano, ukulele and dobro. She loved to play different card games, bingo and crossword puzzles until she was 96 years old. She still reads books and does word searches and plays cards. She is still as sharp as can be, and loves good competition, according to friend Althea Bean.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
