The New School is hosting its 5th annual Harvest Fair fundraiser on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children and adults can try their hand at pressing cider with an old-fashioned cider press. The New School students refurbished the apple press last year, pictured here at that festival. A local farm will be giving pony rides, and there will be a petting zoo with baby goats, bunnies and more. The New School students have created many games and activities for children of all ages to experience. These will include: a hay jump, a bean bag toss, juggling, fishing for prizes, sack races, face painting, pumpkin designing, wreath making and henna tattoos. The Kennebunk River Band will be playing during the event. There will be fresh pizza from the school’s brick oven, and homemade desserts. All of the proceeds go to support the students. The New School is located at 38 York St. in Kennebunk. For more information, call 985-3745.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
