BATH — On Tuesday evenings in October, Patten Free Library will be host weekly walk-in writing workshops for teens. The sessions are open to students in grades 7-12, and will run from 6-8 p.m. in the Library’s second floor board room.
October 7: What is a memoir? Ms. Clark will share examples of short memoirs, discuss the elements that make for a good memoir, and coach students who are working on their own pieces for the writing.
October 14: The ins and outs of short fiction. This workshop will help who want to write short fiction learn techniques for plot diagramming and story development.
October 21: Make what you have into what you need. Many students may have pieces of writing that with work could become a great writing contest entry, or even a college essay.
October 28: The nitty gritty. The final workshop will be all about editing and revision. Bring any piece of writing you would like to have an objective and skilled editor review and critique.
No pre-registration is required. To keep age groups together, Ms. Clark hopes that seventh to ninth graders will arrive between 6 and 7 p.m., and that tenth to twelfth graders arrive between 7 and 8 p.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
