A Notion of Evil

The Windham Public Library has been selected by the Maine Humanities Council to offer “Let’s Talk About It,” a free reading and discussion group with copies of books available through the library. This program is provided by the Maine Humanities Council’s Maine Center for the Book in cooperation with the Maine State Library. The series is entitled “Detective Fiction in the 20th Century: a Notion of Evil,” and it begins on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 6:15 p.m. at the library. There will be five sessions with the last meeting on March 31, 2015. Books to be read and discussed in this series include “The Maltese Falcon,” by Dashiell Hammett, and “A is for Alibi,” by Sue Grafton. A scholar provided by the Maine Humanities Council will facilitate the discussions.

Land trust annual meeting

The annual meeting of Windham Land Trust will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29 at the Windham Public Library. A review of the past years projects that were completed and what is planned for the following year will be held. Everyone is invited to attend and share their ideas and interest.

Snow Dance

Saturday, Oct. 4, the Windham Drifters Snowmobile Club will be hosting a Wishing for Winter Snow Dance to kick off the busy fall prep and winter riding season. The dance is being held at Sunset Ridge Golf Course in Westbrook from 6-11 p.m. The Hurricanes will be providing the music. Cost is $10 per person. There will be a cash bar and silent auction. Open House

There will be an open house and tours at Parson Smith House by Windham Historical Society, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Call 650-7484 or email info@windhamhistorical.org to find out more. This is a rare opportunity to visit this 1764 historic house.

The Feet for Food Walk sponsored by the Sebago Lake Rotary Club took place on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Windham High School with about 40 people attending. The money raised, about $1,400, will benefit the Community Coin Challenge, which is a month-long fundraiser to benefit food pantries in the 10 towns served by the Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce. On Oct. 18, Octoberfest will take place at Buck’s Naked BBQ to celebrate and thank the community for their support.
