SANFORD — Folks who cast ballots in the Nov. 4 election will have choices to make when they vote to elect three people to the city council.

The city council is the only office to see races in the fall election; those seeking to fill openings on the school board and for trusteeships on the quasi-municipal water and sewerage districts are running unopposed.

Nominations for candidates for municipal office closed at 5 p.m. Monday. City Clerk Sue Cote reports four candidates are seeking to fill a partial city council term that expires Dec. 31, 2016, while three candidates, including two incumbents, are seeking to fill two three-year city council terms.

Dianne Rose Connolly was appointed by the city council earlier this year to fill a term until the November election, of a seat formerly held by Ken Burgess. Burgess had been re-elected to the seat in November 2013, but resigned early in 2014, because he said his work schedule made it difficult for him to attend meetings.

Connolly, the incumbent, is seeking the partial term, as is former finance committee member Margaret Trowbridge, former finance committee member Victor DiGregorio and Lucas Lanigan.

Seeking three-year terms are incumbents Maura Herlihy and Joseph Hanslip, along with Steve Bruno, a former finance committee member who ran for council in 2012.

Two others, Richard Jones and Don Jamison, took out nominating papers, but did not submit them.

DiGregorio had taken out papers for both the partial term and the full term, and in the end, chose to submit his nomination papers for the partial term.

Incumbents Kendra Ann Williams and Thomas Miscio are running unopposed for the school committee.

As well, Roland Cote is unopposed for Sanford Water District Board of Trustees, and Andrew Marby and Keith Patterson are unopposed for Sanford Sewerage District board.
