Variety of culinary classes offered
RSU5 Recreation and Community Education will be offering a broad range of culinary classes this fall, ranging from farm-to-table cooking to gluten-free baking.
Israel Buffardi of Cultivating Community will teach about cooking with local ingredients in the following family-friendly workshops: Homemade Fresh Pasta and Simple Sauces, Neapolitan Style Pizza for Maine Kitchens, French Onion Soup from Scratch, Classic French Crepes, Hearty Italian Country Soups and An Autumn Feast.
Chris Toy will be teaching three cooking classes this fall, including Winning with Wings: Game Night Munchies, Hands-on Ravioli and Tortellini, and Chinese Hot Pot. Baking workshops include Cupcake Decorating (Halloween), Make a Gingerbread House (at The European Bakery), Cake Decorating, The Making of the French Macaron (at The European Bakery), The Art of the Cream Pie, and Truffles. Gluten-Free Baking workshops are also being offered.

Extension sets beekeeping schools
University of Maine CooperativeExtension is holding two beginner beekeeping schools and one intermediate beekeeping school, at the UMaine Extension Cumberland County office, 75 Clearwater Drive, Falmouth.
Master Beekeepers Jack Hildreth, Peter Richardson and Chris Rogers will be instructors for both beginner schools. One will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. on five consecutive Thursdays from Oct. 16-Nov. 13. The second will be held at the same time on five consecutive Thursdays from Feb. 5-March 5. The $100 fee for each beginner school includes a textbook and reference notebook. The beginner school is suitable for beekeepers with one to two years of experience.
Hildreth and Richardson will be instructors for the intermediate beekeeping school, offered 6:30-8:30 p.m. on six consecutive Tuesdays, from Jan. 6-Feb. 10, 2015. The $140 fee includes a textbook and reference notebook. The intermediate school is designed for beekeepers with two or more years of experience. Topics include how to keep bee colonies healthy and thriving in Maine, as well as swarm prevention, honey production and colony maximization.

Transportation volunteer needed
The American Cancer Society’s Cumberland County unit is in need of a coordinator to oversee the free transportation program, Road to Recovery.
Responsibilities include receiving requests for local cancer patients needing transportation, contacting and assigning volunteer drivers to fulfill those requests, and maintaining accurate records for volunteer drivers. Society staff will serve as a resource to the Road to Recovery coordinator.
