BIDDEFORD — The University of New England men’s and womens soccer teams both stayed undefeated with wins on Wednesday.
The men’s team controlled play from start to finish on their way to a 3-0 shutout of the University of Maine Farmington. UNE moved to 2-0-1 with the win.
Dexter Doucet and Matthew Christie scored first-half goals for the Nor’easters, with Will Bushey adding a late free-kick goal. Aidan McParland and Nate Diffin each played a half in the UNE goal in the win, with Diffin stopping the Beavers (0-1) lone shot on goal.
Freshman Becca Murphy scored the lone goal of the contest in the 53rd minute as the UNE women’s team earned a 1-0 victory over Husson.
The Nor’easters are off to their best start since 2011, now with a record of 3-0.
Murphy’s second tally of the season came with a touch at the right post after classmate Edie Pallozzi beat her defender down the left side and sent a low cross through the middle of the six-yard box.
Sophomore Brielle Robinson only needed to make one save in the 2nd half to preserve the combined shutout for the Nor’easters. Classmate Emily Richard just watched one Husson (2-2) shot go wide over the opening 45 minutes.
