The Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will kick off a monthly breakfast speaker series starting Tuesday that will run through December.

The series, which will be modeled on the Portland Chamber of Commerce’s “Eggs and Issues” breakfast speaker events, could go on for much longer, depending on the results of the first four events, according to Aimee Senatore, the executive director of the Lakes Region chamber.

“It’s called Morning Momentum because I am somebody who is trying to inspire motivation among our businesses,” Senatore said. “One of the primary roles of our chamber is to promote and foster economic success in this area.”

The breakfasts, which run from 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday of the remaining four months in the year, will take place in Windham, Gray and Standish. The cost is $25 for chamber members, $35 for non-members. If the series continues next year, as hoped, Senatore said, there will also be breakfasts held in Raymond and Naples.

“A business owner or a high-level manager can go to these seminars and have a month to kick-start their business with the ideas that they walk away with,” Senatore said.

Senatore said participants will be given written material at each event summarizing the morning’s talk, enabling them to listen and not take notes. She said that she hopes the series can meet the latent demand for business management training in the region.

“I’ve been here for a year and a half and the feeling that I’ve gotten, and what I’ve heard, is that education events have never really taken off that well in this area,” Senatore said. “I think that that is due in large part to the fact that there’s never been anything consistent. If one seminar was held and attendance wasn’t really that great, they didn’t attempt another one.

“What it takes for these things to be successful is, you’ve got to hold them, hold them on a consistent date and keep holding them,” she added.

Senatore said she hopes 100 people will attend each breakfast.

Julie Arsenault, the chamber’s board president, said she was “ecstatic” about the forthcoming series.

“Surveys conducted within our membership, as well as surrounding areas, show that our region’s businesses, both service and retail, want additional training on these subjects,” she said. “Our participation expectations have already been exceeded for these initial classes and hopes are to implement this as an annual program for 2015. It’s a great way for businesses in our region to kick-start their months.”
