Jean Collins, assistant director of Louis B. Goodall Memorial Library in Sanford, announced the winner of the Sanford Reader’s Basket. The basket is the grand prize of the Adult and Young Adult Summer Reading Program, held each year at the library. This year’s winner is Julie Harding, whose favorite new reading discovery of the summer was author Patricia Briggs. Harding has lived in Sanford for 4 years and is a member and frequent user of the Goodall Library. She attends YCCC and will soon graduate with a degree in behavioral health sciences. The theme of the program this year was “Explore. Dream. Discover.” The basket contained a Kindle Paperwhite, a gift certificate given by Aroma Joe’s, a travel journal and mug.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
