More than a dozen members of Sanford Police Department took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Wednesday. A member of the city’s public works department slowly dumped a mixture of water and ice, donated by Getchell Bros., over their heads from a front-end loader. The process took more than a minute in the slow pour, to the shrieks and screams of officers. The Sanford Police Association is donating $250 to the ALS cause, and have challenged ”“ you guessed it ”“ Sanford Public Works, along with the Sanford Fire Department and the Sanford City Council. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has made its way through much of York County, with Biddeford, Kennebunk and Wells Police among several municipal agencies challenged. As well, a host of individuals, community groups and corporations have taken up the cause, including the Saco Eagles, who also took the challenge Wednesday.
