Sato picked for NYC dance program

Ellie Sato of Gorham, a pre-professional student at the Portland School of Ballet, was selected to attend the nationally auditioned Ailey School Professional Summer Intensive Program in New York City.

The Portland School of Ballet, said in a statement, “Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of America’s foremost modern dance companies, designed to give motivated students the opportunity to study dance in an exciting professional environment in New York City.”

Sato is a junior at North Yarmouth Academy and is a pre-professional dancer of Portland School of Ballet’s CORPS Program, which offers high school credit for dancers on an elite level.

Hincher, Kahn named School Committee student reps

Gorham High School seniors Ben Hincher and Muhammad “Humza” Kahn have selected as the two student representatives on the Gorham School Committee, board Chairman Dennis Libby announced last week.

“They will be attending all of our meetings, encouraged to add to our discussions, but will not be recorded votes on any items,” Libby told the Gorham Town Council. “Of course, when confidentiality is a concern, they will also be asked to step aside on an item.”

The next School Committee meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 10, in Gorham Municipal Center, 75 South St.
