In reference to recent letters regarding illegal immigrants: Did it ever occur to these folks that all of us except for the American Indians are related to immigrants, who came to this country to escape tyranny and escape peril? These are children, for pity’s sake ”“ children. And for a country with such a significant Christian population, how can we turn them away?
Billions of dollars of federal funding are sent out of the country as “foreign aid,” so why should eight of these border refugees not be sent to the State of Maine? Gov. LePage has never been on the side of the welfare of the common Mainer and now is whining about these children coming here without his knowledge. Really? Yes, our own citizens are begging for help, and have had to since the current governorship, but is this caused by placing eight children in the state? I think not.
We have lost any sense of compassion in a state of xenophobia.
