BIDDEFORD — The Saco/Maremont Little League team went 1-1  at the 11 and-12-year old Little League baseball state tournament over the weekend at Hill Street Field, falling to Falmouth 13-9 on Saturday before beating Waldo County 12-0  in an elimination game on Sunday.

In the Saturday game, Falmouth took an early three-run lead thanks to a solo home run from Josh Lefevre and a two-run homer by Michael Simonds, but Saco rallied to tie the game in the second on a Will Mitchell homer and a sacrifice fly by Ben Ham. Falmouth retook the lead in the third thanks to a two-run homer by Sam Manganello, and Saco again came back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 5-5.

But Falmouth took a commanding lead thanks to a six-run fourth inning highlighted by homers by Simonds and Alex Smith, and despite scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth, Saco fell into the loser’s bracket with a 13-9 defeat.

That made Sunday a must-win game, and Saco took control early thanks to a six-run first inning highlighted by four home runs from Kobe Gaudette, Ham, Ethan Tsomidies and Calvin Christoforo. A Grant Dow homer in the second followed by a Pat Sawyer two-run long ball in the third made it 9-0, with Saco adding three more in the fourth and Dow, Ham and Gaudette combining to allow just two Waldo hits as the game ended 12-0 after four innings.

Saco will play Auburn Suburban in another elimination game on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
