No Experience Necessary

If you care about your community, please consider getting involved with the Standish Planning Board as there are currently two seats open, which need to be filled. If you can’t volunteer yourself but know someone who you think would be perfect, please mention it to them and have them consider filling out an application. As Town Planner Bud Benson recently said, “We make a living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give. Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, but they have the heart.”

The Town Council can appoint to the board until the next annual municipal election in June of 2015. You can even apply online by visiting http://www.standish.org/Public_Documents/StandishME_WebDocs/vol_form. Interested persons should contact Mary Chapman at 642-4678 for more information.

New Art Gallery in Town

On June 26, local artist Mari Dieumegard unveiled her newly remodeled art gallery and workshop space, Raven Roost Studio, located at 19 Chadbourne Road (Route 35) in Standish.

Dieumegard is a narrative artist and art educator specializing in gouache and acrylic paintings. Her work has been shown throughout Maine, most recently in her one-person show, “Excavating your Family Narrative” at Birth Roots in Portland.

Rich in color and metaphor, Mari’s narrative work celebrates life, love, friends, and family in all of their various modern forms. Dieumegard has received commissions for her work from as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. Her wedding portraits and family portraits have become cherished mementos to be passed down through generations.

Visit Raven Roost Studio to view her latest original paintings, examples of her commission work, as well as affordable prints and fine art cards. Summer Hours are Wednesday-Friday from noon-5:30 p.m. and Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon.

Dieumegard has more than 20 years experience teaching art to people of all ages. Seventeen of those years were spent teaching at Breakwater School in Portland. She now opens her art studio for adult workshops every second Saturday of the month. Starting in September, Mari will be offering workshops for children as well.

Mari recently held the Studio’s inaugural “Second Saturday Art Brunch” on July 12, where they made art with other adults in an intimate, yet supportive and low-stress environment. The first workshop was making Personal Mandala Paintings. An 8-inch square stretched canvas and all other art supplies, plus coffee, tea, juice and muffins/bagels, will be provided. After three hours of fun, participants headed home with truly original art.
