TOPSHAM
Topsham Democrats will caucus Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. to choose a candidate to take the place of Andrew Mason, who has withdrawn from the House of Representatives District 54 race.
Mason, who will have served one full term in House District 60 when he completes it at the end of the year, announced late June he is withdrawing his candidacy after realizing that since starting a new job at a Portland law firm, his schedule would conflict with that of the Legislature. He didn’t want to represent Topsham “in a part time manner,” he told The Times Record of his decision.
The caucus will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Williams-Cone Elementary School, located at 19 Perkins St., in Topsham.
According to the Sagadahoc Democrats website, Topsham resident Denise Tepler has announced that she will stand for nomination at the caucus.
Tepler has run for the House of Representatives District 60 twice previously, losing both times to former Republican state Rep. Kerri Prescott.
Additional nominations will be accepted from the floor.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
