The Maine Department of Transportation began reconstructing Cobb’s Bridge in New Gloucester June 20 and expects the work to be completed by October.
In order to accomplish the work during a single construction season, the bridge will close to all traffic until the end of August, according to a press release.
During this period, motorists will be directed along the six-mile detour route utilizing Meadow Lane, Woodman Road and Intervale Road. Once the bridge opens in August, traffic will be reduced to one lane through October.
The work is weather dependent so specific dates may change, DOT reported. Motorists are cautioned to pay attention to the reduced speed limit when driving along the detour route.
