BIDDEFORD — Nancy Naimey, principal of St. James Catholic School in Biddeford, has received a Patriot Award from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Naimey was nominated for the award by Karen Morris, a science teacher at St. James and a lieutenant colonel in the Maine Air National Guard. The award was presented on Monday, June 2.
The Patriot Award is given to employers who show exceptional support of the National Guard or Reserve by assisting service members in a variety of ways, including the adjustment of schedules and by displaying overall care for the individual and their families.
“I nominated Ms. Naimey because she has supported me and taken a real interest in what I do,” said Morris. “She has secured substitute teachers for me on numerous occasions, including a five-day stretch in November. She has truly encouraged a sense of patriotism within the St. James Community.”
“I am honored and humbled to have received the Patriot Award. I was shocked!” said Naimey. “The real heroes are those who serve in the Guard and the Reserve. They would be available at a moment’s notice to protect our rights and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them.”
