The Standish Republican Committee would like to thank all of the volunteers and employees of SAD 6 and the town of Standish for the countless hours in preparing the budgets for the upcoming year. Our special thanks to the leadership of SAD 6 and the cooperation of so many people (including the business office, the budget committee, the budget advisory committee, and finally the school board) for the work involved in the creation of the current proposed school budget that will be on the ballot on June 10.
It is my understanding that although everyone was not happy with the final school budget, the group did work together, did listen to each other, and made the hard decisions for the best possible outcome for education in SAD 6. Here is a great example of people working together to “make a difference.”
We recognize the Standish Municipal Referendum contains some controversial spending. We believe that the benefits far outweigh any negatives. The most controversial being sidewalks at Standish Corner, at this point we feel that if the experts say that sidewalks will generate economic development, let’s give it a chance. Sensible economic development is our best bet for controlling our taxes and bringing much-needed jobs to the town.
The Standish Republican Town Committee gives its full endorsement to the proposed MSAD school budget and the Standish Referendum that are on the ballot on June 10 and the Standish Municipal Meeting on June 14.
We urge you to vote yes for the SAD 6 budget and Standish referendum question No. 1.
Yes, taxes will go up. Yes, there were cuts in projected spending. There is much more to discuss but now is not the time. Now is the time to say thank you! You can really say thank you by voting on election day and attending the Standish Town Meeting.
Will Hamilton
Chairman, Standish
Republican Committee
