June 14: There will be a Flag Day Ceremony at the Military Museum on Peary Terrace in South Portland at 5 p.m. The ceremony is approximately 30 minutes during which American Legion members will be burning all U.S. flags. If you have a flag you can bring drop it off at the museum anytime prior to the event or also on the day of the event. The museum will also stay open for viewing. All are welcome.

June 21: Alicia & Friends 5: A Musical Benefit for Epilepsy takes place at 7 p.m. at The Portland Players, 420 Cottage Road, South Portland. The show, raffle and champagne reception are all included in the ticket price: $30 for adults; $15 for those 16 and younger. June 21-22: Nonesuch Books in South Portland celebrates its second annual school summer reading weekend. All school summer reading list titles will be discounted 20 percent. Bring in your list or select from our summer reading section. Teachers get 20 percent off a book purchase (no limit, any books). Wednesday, June 25: Are you bothered by allergies? Hidden food allergies can cause a myriad of bodily symptoms. Attend a workshop at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church (150 Black Point Road in Scarborough) at 6:30 p.m. to learn if this might be a problem for you and the five best strategies to reverse annoying symptoms. The free lecture is hosted by The Daniel Plan of Maine support group, and everyone is invited to attend. Speakers will be certified nutritional coach Kim Clavette and nutritional counselor and microscopist Jill Wheaton. Refreshments provided.

Friday, June 27: From 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter is hosting a statewide educational conference at the Portland Marriot at Sable Oaks in South Portland, with special guest Teepa Snow, a nationally recognized dementia care specialist. There will also be workshops featured, including “So you have Dementia – Don’t Stop Living!” and a research update by Sarah Hallen, M.D., in the afternoon.
