Stiviano says she was assaulted in N.Y.
NEW YORK (AP) — The woman Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was talking to when he made racist remarks says she was assaulted by two men outside a New York City hotel.
Police say V. Stiviano spoke to detectives and told them the assault happened outside the Gansevoort Hotel in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District on Sunday night.
Police say Stiviano said there was an exchange of words and she was punched in the side of the face. Police say they’re investigating the possibility the unidentified men used racial slurs during the attack. Stiviano is of black and Mexican descent.
Jackson fined for tampering with Fisher
NEW YORK (AP) — Knicks President Phil Jackson was fined $25,000 by the NBA for a tampering violation involving veteran guard Derek Fisher.
Jackson told reporters last week that Fisher is “on my list of guys that could be very good candidates” to coach the Knicks next season. Because Fisher is under contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder, that was deemed to be in violation of league rules.
Marino leads latest group to sue NFL
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino is among the latest group of former football players to file a concussion-related lawsuit against the National Football League.
The 52-year-old former Miami Dolphins quarterback is one of 15 former players who filed a lawsuit in federal court in Philadelphia last week.
Marino and the other 14 plaintiffs join more than 4,800 others who have alleged the NFL misled players about the long-term dangers of concussions. The NFL has denied those claims.
Elway’s son arrested on assault charges
DENVER (AP) — Jack Elway, the son of Denver Broncos general manager John Elway, was arrested on assault charges after his girlfriend told police he pulled her out of a car by her hair.
Court documents show the woman told Denver police that 24-year-old John Albert Elway also pushed her to the ground when she tried to get back in the car, causing scrapes.
NYCFC makes Spain’s Villa first signing
NEW YORK (AP) — David Villa of Spain has signed a three-year contract with New York City FC, becoming the first player on the expansion Major League Soccer team that starts play next season at Yankee Stadium.
England MF Lampard leaving Chelsea
MIAMI (AP) — England midfielder Frank Lampard is set to head to the World Cup without a club after announcing that he is leaving Chelsea.
The 35-year-old Lampard has been at Chelsea for 13 years and is the club’s all-time leading scorer but has not agreed to a new deal with the Premier League team. Lampard is currently with England in Miami for two World Cup warm-up matches before traveling to Brazil on Saturday.
