BRUNSWICK — Coastal Humane Society met its goal of finding homes for 100 animals during a “Midnight Madness” event Sunday, June 1.
The shelter opened its Range Road and Pleasant Street buildings at 12:01 a.m. to adopters, some of whom had been waiting in line for hours while being entertained by Coastal Humane volunteers.
By 4 a.m., 67 animals were adopted by new families. The shelters opened again at 10 a.m. on June 2 and by 4 p.m. had reached its goal of arranging adoptions for 100 dogs and cats.
The event was the kick-off to Coastal Humane’s participation in the Rachael Ray/ASPCA $100,000 Challenge, a nationwide adoption competition among shelters.
Coastal Humane is the only New England animal shelter to be invited to participate in the challenge.
