BRUNSWICK — Southern Maine Community College, with campuses in South Portland and Brunswick, is launching a new program that will train students and offer a degree in one of the fastest-growing fields in information technolog y.
The new Computer Information Security (CIS) program will advance information security education and strengthen Maine’s cybersecurity and information security work force. Students who complete the program will receive an associate in applied science degree in computer information security.
“Training tomorrow’s information security professionals is essential for our security and economy and to protect the investments and data assets of Maine companies,” said SMCC President Ron Cantor.
SMCC is offering several courses this summer to allow students to get a start on their degree before the program launches this fall. Students who enroll in the new program and have demonstrated financial need are eligible for a scholarship to cover the cost of these summer courses.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
