SACO — Thornton Academy knocked off one of the SMAA’s top softball teams on Friday, pounding out 15 hits to beat Cheverus 9-2.
The Trojans (8-3) scored a pair of both the second and third innings, then turned the game into a rout with a four-run fifth.
Erin Brayden led the way for the Thornton offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Brooke Cross, Kaylee Burns, Kiera Fitzgerald, Aleisha Cross and Libby Pomerleau all had two hits apiece.
Bailey Tremblay threw a five-hitter, with eight strikeouts and three walks, and didn’t allow a run until the seventh inning.
KENNEBUNK 8, GRAY-NG 7
KENNEBUNK — Kennebunk scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally past Gray-New Gloucester 8-7 in a WMC softball game on Friday.
The Rams (6-7) trailed 7-0 heading into the sixth before storming back.
Meg Dube struck on nine batters to earn the win, and also had two hits at the plate.
Boys Lacrosse
BIDDEFORD 10, NOBLE 5
BIDDEFORD — Biddeford outscored Noble 7-1 in the second half to win 10-5 in an SMAA boys lacrosse game at Waterhouse Field on Friday.
Patrick Ruck scored a hat trick for the Tigers, while Cody Sevigney scored twice in the fourth quarter, when Biddeford outscored the Knights 4-0.
KENNEBUNK 18, LAKE REGION 0
KENNEBUNK — Tyler Elkington and Jake Boothby scored four goals apiece and Kennebunk built a 12-0 halftime lead on the way to an 18-0 rout of Lake Region in a Western Maine Conference boys lacrosse game on Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Field.
Josh Hussey added three goals for the Rams (5-4), while Pat Rimmer and Pat Murphy both chipped in two and Ryan Keefe and Bryce Frasier one apiece.
Girls Lacrosse
BIDDEFORD 8, OXFORD HILLS 7
OXFORD — Kat Dumoulin recorded a hat trick as visiting Biddeford topped Oxford Hills 8-7 in a Class A girls lacrosse game on Friday.
Olivia Morrison and Mia Laflamme each had two goals for the Tigers (6-3), who also got four assists from Taylor Turgeon.
Coley Zefelt led the Vikings (2-6) with three goals.
Boys Tennis
THORNTON 5, MARSHWOOD 0
SACO — Thornton Academy continued its sensational season in boys tennis, as the Trojans swept visiting Marshwood 5-0 in an SMAA match on Friday.
Thornton (10-1) won in straight sets in four of the five matches, with only the No. 2 doubles team having to go the full three sets.
Victor Menezes and David Parran dropped a combined four games in No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively.
