BIDDEFORD — Biddeford Venture Crew 308 recently competed in a Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation competition. At the competition, which took place at the Sig Sauer Academy in Exeter, N.H., the squad of four competed in the Sr. Rim Fire 22LR Division. They won first place in their division and were awarded grant money in the sum of $2,500.
Midway USA Foundation provided an initial grant of $10,000 to Venture Crew 308 for the purpose of Scholastic Shooting Sports when the Venture Crew started in October. This was the team’s first competition and award since the crew started. The crew practices on average once a month.
The team’s head coach, Tony Fleurent, said, “the boys were nervous; some of them had only been using a firearm for a very short time. They stayed focused and did their best; they should be proud of their accomplishment.”
Venture Crew 308 serves boys and girls ages 14 to 20 years old. The Venture program is an extension of the Boy Scouts of America.
