BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College women’s tennis head coach Paul “Hobie” Holbach has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Division III Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
Holbach is now a finalist for the Division III Coach of the Year award, which will be announced on May 21 at the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Holbach paced the Polar Bears to one of their finest seasons, earning the program’s highest-ever national ranking (seventh) and posting a 16-6 record. Bowdoin reached the NESCAC semifinals and, last weekend, won an NCAA Regional to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for just the third time in program history.
Bowdoin will face Williams in the national quarterfinals at CMS on Monday.
In his seventh season at Bowdoin, Holbach has led the Polar Bears to all three of their NCAA quarterfinal appearances and owns a 91- 52 record (.636). He is two wins shy of becoming the winningest coach in program history (Ed Reid, 93 wins).
