TORONTO (AP) — Third baseman Will Middlebrooks has been activated off the 15-day disabled list and is in the lineup for Boston’s game against the Blue Jays on Friday night.
Middlebrooks has been limited to four games this season because of a strained right calf. He went on the DL April 6, batting .231 with one home run and one RBI.
Middlebrooks replaces Brock Holt, who was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket after going hitless and making one of Boston’s five errors in Thursday’s loss to the New York Yankees. Holt appeared in seven games for the Red Sox, batting .348 with no homers and four RBIs.
Outfielder Shane Victorino, who returned from a strained right hamstring Thursday, was back in the lineup for the Red Sox again Friday.
