A service of comfort, healing and hope will be offered at First Parish Congregational Church UCC at the corner of Beach and Main streets in Saco, on Wednesday, April 30 at 7 p.m. Participants will share words, silence and the lighting of candles. All are welcome to the half-hour service.
Catholic Charities Maine will host a free eWaste Day at Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave. in Sanford, on Saturday, May 10 from 8 a.m. to noon. Organizers will be collecting televisions, computers and leftover parts from other electronics. At a similar event at the same location in September, Catholic Charities Maine collected 45,000 pounds of e-waste. Reusable items will be sold at Threads of Hope, one of five thrift stores operated by Catholic Charities Maine, which sell donated home furnishings, clothing, collectibles and other items at affordable prices. Purchases and donations made at the stores help support Catholic Charities Maine programs, which served more than 60,000 Maine residents in the last year. Donations are always encouraged during business hours at the Threads of Hope stores, with southern Maine locations in Portland, Union Station Plaza, 244 St. John St., and Sanford, Shaw’s Plaza, 1364 Main St.
Our Father’s House Recovery Center in Saco has recently added a 28-day, faith-based rehabilitation program. The goal of the residential drug rehabilitation program is to teach the skills for establishing abstinence from drugs and alcohol, through individual therapy, group therapy, coping skills development, relapse prevention and relapse avoidance tools, recreational activities and participation in 12-step meetings with the goal of building a support network after graduation from the program. Messiah Christian Church, 2700 Post Road in Wells, will host its fifth annual Spring Car Show on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rain date is May 10. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and 80 awards in 16 categories plus “Best of Show” will be given out. Proceeds will benefit the church’s community outreach projects.
