PORTLAND (AP) — Columbia University wants to test 10,000 wells in a Maine county for arsenic over the next six years.
The Waterville Morning Sentinel reports that the university is seeking federal funding for the project. The project proposes to test more than half of Kennebec County’s 17,000 wells.
Researcher Yan Zheng said testing would be done with field kits that allow researchers to provide results to homeowners in minutes. Testing could begin in April 2015 and would run through 2020.
