RAYMOND – Jordan-Small Middle School is proud to present “The Wizard of Oz, Jr.,” the fabulous family musical which includes many of your favorite songs from the original movie. The show will be performed on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12, at 7 p.m. at the Jordan Small Middle School in Raymond.

“Wizard of Oz” is the 1939 musical about Kansas farm girl Dorothy who wants to run away from home to find happiness but is knocked unconscious in a tornado and awakens in a strange village filled with munchkins, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West. Wanting to find her way home and wearing the coveted powerful ruby slippers, Dorothy embarks on a journey to Emerald City by following the yellow brick road. On her way to the city, Dorothy meets a scarecrow, tin man and a cowardly lion who lack a brain, heart and courage. The three accompany Dorothy in hopes that the Wizard will also fill their desires. They encounter many of the witch’s traps including fire, flying monkeys and guards as she tries to steal the ruby slippers. They eventually make their way to the Wizard who is revealed behind his mystical curtain only to be an ordinary man. Throughout the adventure, the three discover they already have the qualities they believed they lacked and Dorothy has the powers to return home and did not have to run away to find her heart’s desires in the first place.

“Wizard of Oz” showcases the musical theater talents of nearly 40 Jordan Small Middle School student actors, singers, dancers and technicians and is directed by Meghan O’Brien with musical direction by Dr. Robert Chabora. Mary Thornton shared her talents as stage and costume manager, and Patricia Valley and Dr. Pam Chabora choreographed the dances.

Featured actors are Natalie Walker as Dorothy, Maggie Nunn as Scarecrow, Savana Bradford as Tin Man, Sophie Potter as the Cowardly Lion, Danielle Meader as the Wicked Witch, Nora Laprise as Glinda, and Walter Backman as the Wizard. Their collective talents along with a packed ensemble make a stunning and entertaining show not to be missed.

All your favorite songs will be featured including “Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead,” “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” “If I only Had a Brain” and of course, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Show dates are April 11 and 12 starting at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 and can be purchased at the door beginning at 6 p.m.
