We wish to thank everyone who donated to the York County Democratic Committee’s clothing drive to help homeless men and women veterans. We started our drive on March 2 at our 27 Democratic caucuses held throughout York County. Attendees donated new/like-new coats, jackets, scarves, gloves, thermal shirts, flannel shirts, socks and pants.
We continued our drive at our recent St. Patrick’s Day party at the Sanford VFW, and folks again responded very generously. Congressman Mike Michaud and U.S. Senate candidate Shenna Bellows addressed our group and discussed the need for caring for our veterans.
We wish to give a special thank-you to John Flagler, veterans activist from Alfred, the Sanford VFW and the Veterans Surplus Clothing Program for distributing the clothing directly to the veterans. This drive is further proof that Mainers step up and care for our veterans in need.
–Diane M. Denk, chairperson, York County Democratic Committee

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
