Speakout Contest

The Lion’s Club Speakout Contest will be held at the Gray Congregational Church Parish House (behind McDonald’s) on Tuesday, April 8. Free pizza at 6:30 p.m., contest at 7 p.m. Speak about a subject or topic that interest you and you may win some money. Legion’s Public Supper

A public supper will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 5-6 p.m. at the Gray American Legion, 15 Lewiston Road, Gray. On the menu are pea and kidney beans, chop suey, cole slaw, hot dogs, breads and dessert. The meal costs $8, $15 a couple above 12 years of age; $2.50 for 5- to 12-year-olds; under 5 free. Patriot 5K Run/Walk

Come to St. Gregory’s Church, 24 North Raymond Road, Gray, Maine on Saturday, May 17, for the 5th Annual Patriot 5K Run/Walk. The Patriot 5K is held annually and is a USATF certified, fast, mostly flat, scenic course around Crystal Lake in Gray.

Free tech T-shirts to everyone that signs up by April 28. Thousands in prizes and a fun, family friendly atmosphere. Registration for the 5K is $18, $20 day of race. The kid’s fun run is free. The Kid’s run starts at 8 a.m. The 5K starts at 9 a.m. Go to www.patriot5k.org for more information.

No Friday Story Time

There will be no Children’s Story Time on Friday, March 28, at the Gray Public Library.

For Your Safety

Three AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) units were purchased from donations made in memory of Gail Bodwell, a longtime Gray resident and active community member. These AED units will be placed in three locations: Town Hall, Library, and Newbegin Center. Many town employees were trained in the use of the AEDs and CPR, as part of the ongoing town of Gray safety program.

Vacation Camp

Time to sign up for April Vacation Camp, April 22-25, for grades K-6 to be held at the Newbegin gym. There will be offered personal growth activities in the morning and in the afternoon a mix of field trips (Maine Wildlife Park, movies, golfing and ice cream, swimming at St. Joe’s) and fun free-time activities. A lunch and snack must be packed daily. You can pick single day or go all four days. Registration deadline is April 14.

Fiddlehead Players Children’s Production 2014 presents “The Music Man Jr.” at Gray-New Gloucester High School, Libby Hill Road, Gray. Nomination papers are available in Gray for the offices of: Town Council – two three-year terms to expire June 2017; SAD 15 Board of Directors – two three-year terms to expire June 2017; Gray Water District Trustee – one five-year term to expire June 2019

Baseball/Softball Golf Tournament

The Gray-New Gloucester High School Athletic Department has announced Sunday, May 4, as the date for the 12th Annual GNG Baseball/Softball Golf tournament fundraiser, which will be held at 1 p.m. at Spring Meadows Golf Club at 59 Lewiston Road, Gray. Registration will begin at 12 p.m.

The golf tournament is the only fundraiser specifically held for the baseball and softball programs. All teams (varsity and JV) work together to obtain sponsors for the event and golf teams to participate in the event. Sponsorships range from $500 to $150 and include a specified number of golf participants, signs on specified holes, as well as inclusion in the program of events. Golfers can sign up individually for an 18-hole round of golf including cart, dinner and prizes for $85 or they can work to form a team of 4 golfers for $300 (a savings of $10 per golfer).

Each golfer will also receive an additional free round of golf. Golfers will be teamed together in groups of four, if not already in a team. The event will follow a shotgun start in a scramble format with one team score. Dinner and awards will be held at 5:30 p.m. Prizes will be given for first place gross (four $35 gift cards), first place net (four $30 gift cards), second place net (four $25 gift cards), longest putt (one $20 gift card) and closest to the tee (one $20 gift card). Mulligans will be available for purchase and a putting contest will be held along with a 50/50 raffle.
