Five local indoor track and field athletes have been named to the 2014 Maine Track & Cross Country Coaches All-State teams, released on Monday.
Thornton Academy junior Tori Daigle, the Class A state 55-meter hurdles and long jump champion, was one of 14 girls named to the first team. Her Golden Trojans teammate, senior Amanda Arnold, was one of 17 named to the honorable mention team. Arnold was third in the 55-meter hurdles and fourth in the long jump at the state meet to help Thornton to a state title.
Biddeford’s James Ociti and Kennebunk’s Austin Weigle were two of the 14 named to the boys first team. A senior, Ociti was one of just two boys to win two events at the Class A state meet, pulling the sprint double with wins in the 55-meter and 400-meter dashes.Weigle, a senior, was the Class A high jump champion with a leap of 6 feet, 2 inches.
Biddeford junior Justin Gagnon was also one of 17 named to the boys honorable mention team. Gagnon ran a 7.84, the fastest 55-meter hurdles time in SMAA history at the Southwesterns meet, and finished fourth in the triple jump at the Class A meet.
